Learn to tie your shoes by singing.

To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

Right lace over, tie one knot,
Put the right lace over the left lace and tie the first simple knot.

Hold the ends with three fingers.
Hold each lace with your middle, ring, and little fingers.

Make crab claws and scoop them up,
Open your thumbs and index fingers like crab claws and scoop up the laces from underneath.

Left claw here and right claw there.
Turn the left claw toward you and the right claw away from you.

See a one and see a two,
Turn your crab claws until the fingers look like the shapes of a “1” and a “2.”

Bring both crab claws together.
Move the two crab claws toward each other in the middle.

Hook the loops and pull them through,
Hook the opposite loops with your crab claws and pull them through.

Left thumb, right index finger.
Use your left thumb for the left loop and your right index finger for the right loop.

Pull the loops and make them tight,
Pull both loops outward to tighten the knot.

Now your bow is nice and neat.
Straighten the loops so the bow sits neatly across your shoe.

Quick and easy, now you’re done,
That’s it — the quick bow is finished.

This is called the Ian Knot.
You have just tied the fast shoelace knot called the Ian Knot.
